The Colorado Rockies made two roster moves before this afternoon’s game with the Chicago Cubs. Adam Ottavino was activated from the 10-day disabled list and to make room for Ottavino on the active roster, the Rockies optioned Carlos Estévez.
Ottavino was placed on the DL on May 30 with right shoulder inflammation. Today was the first day that he was eligible to be activated. Estévez was called up on that same day to replace him in the bullpen and made two appearances during his 10 days on the MLB roster. In those two outing Estévez allowed three runs on seven hits across two innings of work.
Ottavino has had a very interesting season. While his 2.57 ERA is great, the underlying peripherals better reflect the roller coaster of a season that he’s endured. In 21 innings, he’s struck out 24 but also walked 15. Hopefully the command issues were tied to the inflammation in his shoulder and will be a thing of the past.
