The Rockies will go with a righty heavy lineup against the southpaw Steven Matz today, as the team will try to avoid a three-game sweep at the hands of the Mets. Charlie Blackmon and Gerardo Parra are the only left-handers in the lineup. They’re hitting first and sixth, respectively. Ian Desmond is back in the lineup for the first time since early July. He’s in left field and will hit fifth. Ryan Hanigan will be Jeff Hoffman’s battery mate.
The Rockies could really use great outing from Hoffman today. There have only been two games since the conclusion of the All-Star break and the bullpen has already thrown 102⁄3 innings, and that excludes the three innings Kyle Freeland pitched yesterday. Freeland’s likely headed back to the rotation to take the recently DL’d Tyler Chatwood’s place.
Yoenis Céspedes isn’t in the lineup for the Mets today after suffering what Mets manager Terry Collins described as a hip issue. Céspedes came up limping yesterday after diving for a ball in the outfield. He was removed from the game.
Today’s game begins at 11:10 MT.
