Colorado Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers figuring out Double-A

Colorado Rockies prospects news, notes and scores from Sunday, July 16

The promotion from High-A to Double-A is often times considered the hardest jump of any in the minors. Outside of making the leap to the big leagues, there is no greater difference in competition and it can cause prospects to stumble after receiving their promotion to Double-A. Last year, we saw Ryan McMahon struggle to make the leap. With the Yard Goats playing all of their games on the road last year made the adjustment even more severe. Thankfully, McMahon figured it out in year two and forced a promotion to Triple-A.

Brendan Rodgers appeared to have a similar struggle after his promotion to Hartford after his appearance in the Cal-League All-Star game. After hitting .400/.419/.700 in the Cal League with 36 extra-base hit in 48 games, Rodgers appeared to have finally met his match and was hitting a measly .184..259/.184 with no extra base hits in his first 13 games in Double-A. Since then, Rodgers appears to have solved the higher level of pitching as he has hit .429/.500/1.048 with four home runs and a double in the last five games. It’s still a small sample size, but considering what he did to the Cal League after a relatively slow start, Rodgers may have figured out Double-A pitching already.
