The Rockies and Pirates play game two of their three game set at 6:10 MT tonight. The Rockies will send righty Germán Márquez to the mound. It will be Márquez’s sixteenth start of the season. He’s coming off of an outing in which he struck out nine batters in 62⁄3 innings while allowing three runs on eight hits. He’ll face a hot-hitting Pirates team that includes.
The Rockies will face 24-year-old right-hander Chad Kuhl. Kuhl has a 4.85 ERA and a 4.15 FIP in 19 starts so far this year. Despite facing a righty, the Rockies are going with Ian Desmond in left field and Mark Reynolds at first base. This year at least, Desmond doesn’t have a notable lefty-righty split—he has a .306 wOBA against lefties and a .311 wOBA against righties. Reynolds has hit righties much better than lefties this year, with a .411 wOBA against the former and a .290 wOBA against the latter.
Also, Carlos González is in the lineup, in what is turning into a final push to make it back to replacement level.
