Colorado Rockies activate Tyler Chatwood, place Greg Holland on paternity leave

Chatwood will join the Rockies bullpen for now

The Colorado Rockies have placed closer Greg Holland on paternity leave and activated Tyler Chatwood from the 10-day disabled list, according to The Denver Post’s Patrick Saunders.

Chatwood will take Holland’s spot in the Rockies’ bullpen for now, as Holland’s paternity leave means he will be away from the team for at most three days. He has made nine relief appearances in his career, but none since 2012. This season for Chatwood has been a struggle, as he has posted a 4.74 ERA and 1.45 WHIP and leads the National League with 60 walks in 10613 innings.

Though he will be away for no more than two games, it could be a big loss for the Rockies’ already thin bullpen. The big leagues’ leader in saves with 31, Holland has a 1.72 ERA and 1.06 WHIP in 36 23 innings this season. Lefty Jake McGee will likely take his place in the closer’s role. Holland will return for Saturday’s game against the Nationals at the latest.
