Just talked to a ML talent evaluator who says he'd be "stunned" if the Rockies lost out on Avila. "If they really want him, he's theirs." 1/

This, of course, is close to what we heard from a national reporter about the J.D. Martinez sweepstakes, so take it for what it's worth. 2/2 https://t.co/xAiDVpUnDZ

The Colorado Rockies continue to be tied to the available catchers on the trade market. After being linked to Jonathan Lucroy earlier today, they are now being connected to Alex Avila according to a report by Jon Morosi.
Like Lucroy, the Tigers catcher would be a rental acquisition as he is scheduled to become a free agent after this season. However, Avila is enjoying one of the best offensive seasons of his career with an .879 OPS, so the cost may be a bit higher in terms of prospects.
With the amount of rumors continuing to float around the Rockies, and their clear desire to improve their catching situation, this may be the next big move by the Rockies as they head down the playoff stretch.
Another intriguing possibility with a Tigers trade would be for the Rockies to acquire a reliever like Justin Wilson as part of the trade as well. This may intrigue the Tigers as it would make it more likely for them to receive a true impact prospect instead of the lower-level prospects that have been the currency of most of the trades this season.
