A pair of hitters managed to steal the show in a top pitching prospect’s Triple-A debut as David Dahl and Ryan McMahon each came a double shy of the cycle in a 9-5 Isotopes win.
Dahl, still working his way back to action after a rib injury in Spring Training, was 3-for-5 in the game with a solo home run in the third inning and a triple, scoring three times and driving in three. Meanwhile, McMahon went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run and a triple of his own, he scored once and, like Dahl, drove in three.
Both players look to figure in the Rockies’ plans by September at the latest, with McMahon in particular pushing for promotion hitting .386/.407/.641 with 10 home runs among his 29 extra-base hits in 47 games with the Isotopes.
The hitting efforts of Dahl and McMahon supported a strong outing from Yency Almonte, who was making his Triple-A debut.
