The Colorado Rockies made a pair of corresponding roster moves today before their game against the Cincinnati Reds. The Rockies activated Carlos González from the 10-day disable list on the first day he was eligible after being placed on the DL on June 26 with a sore shoulder. González did not go on a rehab assignment so this will be his first game action since June 22. Hopefully the time off to rest his shoulder will also help him reboot what has been a miserable offensive season for him. González is batting fifth in the lineup for tonight.
Unfortunately, the move to open up a roster spot for González was an easy one. Ian Desmond suffered a calf injury in the fourth inning of last night’s game and after an MRI today was placed on the 10-day DL. There is no word as to the severity of the injury or a timetable for his return. However, the quickness with which he was placed on the DL may be significant.
There was good news about another injured Rockies outfielder today though as it was announced that Gerardo Parra will be starting a three game rehab stint with the Albuquerque Isotopes tomorrow. Assuming everything goes well, Parra will rejoin the team Friday night.
