The best hitting prospects in the Rockies system are in the upper levels of the farm system. Last night, two of these lefty hitting prospects displayed the offensive pop they’ve maintained all year.
Ryan McMahon continued his unreal stint with the Isotopes. The 22-year-old went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run. He’s now hitting .392/.418/.656 with 11 home runs since his promotion to Triple-A. McMahon has now played as many games for Albuquerque as he did for Double-A Hartford in 2017. Combined, he’s posted a .362/.405/.600 batting line.
McMahon’s not walking quite as much in in Triple-A as he has in the past, but he’s also only striking out in about 15 percent of his plate appearances. We’re still waiting for his over .400 BABIP to regress some, but it just might be that he’s hitting the ball extremely hard against competition that is becoming less and less competitive for him.
Not to be outdone, McMahon’s teammate Jordan Patterson went 2-for-3 with two home runs. It was the fourth time this season the 25-year-old hit two dingers in one game. Patterson has spent the entire year with the Isotopes, and he’s produced a .299/.360/.568 line with 21 home runs. He’s having his best minor league season since his 2015 with the Modesto Nuts. He represents another left-handed outfielder option for the Rockies, but I wouldn’t expect to see him in Rockies purple until rosters expand in September.
