Perhaps not the first Rockies candidate in most minds for the Derby, Blackmon told MLB.com's Max Gelman that he was surprised and excited to be chosen to participate. He hit his 18th home run of the season in Monday's 5-3 win over the Reds.

The Rockies swapped veteran outfielders on and off the disabled list on Monday, with Carlos Gonzalez returning to the lineup and Ian Desmond headed to the 10-day DL with a calf strain.
