The Rockies look to take the second game of their seven game home stand leading up to the All-Star break. They’ll try to do it against a pitcher who’s first name is Homer, which could be good news. Research indicates, however, that first names aren’t always predictive for baseball outcomes.
D.J. LeMahieu is sitting out today’s game, and it’s likely to rest the minor but apparently lingering groin cramp he suffered a week ago. Alexi Amarista will play in his stead, hitting seventh. Carlos González is in the lineup and hitting cleanup.
Raimel Tapia is batting second and playing left field. The Rockies’ lineup has struggled over the past two weeks, but one possible highlight is that Tapia is starting to figure major-league pitching out. Over the past 13 games, Tapia has been the team’s best hitter, as measured by wOBA. That’s on the strength of the extra base hits he’s been getting, which is a great sign, as it took him a while to hit something other than a single.
Kyle Freeland gets the start for the Rockies. It will be the seventeenth start of the year for the Colorado native. The game starts at 6:10 MT.
