Colorado Rockies pitcher Kyle Freeland loses no-hitter in the ninth inning against White Sox

Follow Kyle Freeland’s attempt to no-hit the White Sox

Update 4:20 p.m. MT: Melky Cabrera with one out in the ninth has broken up the no-hitter with a line drive single to left field just out of the reach of Nolan Arenado.

Due to pitch count, Bud Black removed Freeland from the game and Jordan Lyles is in to get the last two outs.


Update 4:17 p.m. MT: Freeland strikes out Adam Engel for the first out.


Update 4:13 p.m. MT: Kyle Freeland will get a shot at the no-hitter. Despite having thrown 116 pitches already, he’s headed to the mound to start the ninth inning.


Update 4:03 p.m. MT: Freeland struck out Omar Narvaez and Willy Garcia to complete the eighth inning with the no-hitter intact. Freeland now has eight strikeouts in the game but has also throw 116 pitches. It’s going to be interesting to see if he comes out for the ninth.


Update 3:58 p.m. MT: Gerardo Parra just made a spectacular diving catch to record the first out of the eighth inning to keep the no-hitter alive.


Update, 3:49 p.m. MT: Freeland did end up hitting. And he ended up getting an RBI single and making it 10-0.


Update, 3:43 p.m. MT: The Rockies just keep hitting. It’s now 9-0 in the seventh inning. There are two on and nobody out. Kyle Freeland might have to bat. Who’s going to tell him though?


Update, 3:26 p.m. MT: Kyle Freeland has no-hit the White Sox through seven innings, but some poor calls and more than a little bit of pressing have inflated his pitch count to 99. Chris Rusin is up in the Rockies’ bullpen. If this is a no-hitter, it might be a group effort.


Update, 3:03 p.m. MT: The Rockies are still batting and piling on the runs! It’s 7-0 now in favor of the Rockies. Freeland has some room to breathe.


Kyle Freeland has no-hit the Chicago White Sox through six innings. He has six strikeouts. The only two blemishes are that he walked one batter and hit another. We’ll update this post as the game progresses.
