Josh Fuentes’ eighth-inning, three-run home run propelled the Hartford Yard Goats to a 4-3 win over the Trenton Thunder.
With Hartford down 3-1 entering the bottom of the eighth, Max White started the inning with a single and Omar Carrizales drew a one-out walk, bringing Fuentes to the plate as the go-ahead run, and he took Thunder reliever Cody Carroll deep to left-center. Fuentes’ heroics should come as no surprise really, as clutch dingers do seem to run in the family.
The three-run blast was Fuentes’ second of the game, he hit a solo home run in the fourth inning off Trenton starter Domingo Acevedo, cutting the Yard Goats’ deficit to 2-1 at the time.
Credit also to Yard Goats starter Jack Wynkoop, who kept his team in the game with a solid start. He went six innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
