Colorado Rockies prospect Jordan Patterson continues his hot streak for the Albuquerque Isotopes

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from August 16, 2017.

It was a pretty tough night within the Colorado Rockies’ farm system on Wednesday. All four of their full season affiliates lost while only one of the top 10 PuRPs was in action. A bit further down the list, however, the No. 15 PuRP Jordan Patterson continued to make his case for a promotion to the big leagues.

The 25-year-old lefty had just one hit for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, but it was a big one. His 23rd home run of the season helped him improve his slash line on the season to .286/.351/.549 in 470 plate appearances. Those are already strong numbers, but he’s been even hotter recently. Since June 23rd—a span of 49 games and 206 plate appearances—Patterson is hitting .348/.398/.701. He also has nearly identical numbers regardless of the opposing pitcher’s handedness, so he’s likely a viable option against both righties and lefties. The challenge, of course, is finding a spot to give him playing time in the big leagues. With only two weeks remaining until the roster expansion in September, it’s likely the Rockies will simply wait and promote him at that point.
