Trio of Rockies pitching prospects struggle through short outings

Rockies prospect report and game results for games from August 19, 2017

It was a tough night for Rockies pitching prospects. Yency Almonte, who was recently promoted from Double- to Triple-A, didn’t make it out of the first inning for the Isotopes. He faced seven batters in the first inning; five of those batters got a hit, the other two walked, and one of the hits was a grand slam. In all, Almonte allowed six runs in the first before Glenallen Hill removed him from the game.

Double-A Hartford played a double header that two more pitching prospects have tough games. Parker French isn’t as highly rated as a pitching prospect as Almonte, but he is a bona fide PuRP. He allowed five runs in five innings while pitching for Hartford on Saturday. He walked one batter and struck out three.

In the second game, Ryan Castellani pitched just four innings before being removed. It’s unclear why. He allowed just two hits, struck out two, and didn’t walk a batter. He threw 50 pitches, 34 of which went for strikes. It was a short but effective outing. Let’s just hope he’s not hurt.
