Colorado Rockies’ prospect Tyler Nevin is healthy and productive for the Asheville Tourists

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from August 23, 2017.

In spite of their Triple-A affiliate having the day off, Wednesday was a busy day in the Colorado Rockies’ farm system, as a total of eight games were played between the six affiliates who were in action. A highlight of the day came from No. 22 PuRP Tyler Nevin who went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles across two games for the Low-A Asheville Tourists. Since being drafted 38th overall in the 2015 draft, staying healthy has been a struggle for the 20-year-old corner infielder. He missed all but one game in the 2016 season with a severe hamstring strain before missing nearly two months of the 2017 season with a fractured hand.

Now that he’s back and healthy, Nevin is out to show what he can do. Entering play on Wednesday, he had hit .341/.392/.533 across his last 34 games, a span of 153 plate appearances. His overall numbers aren’t as shiny thanks to a .218/.319/.269 slash line through April and early May while trying to play through his hand injury, but we’re now starting to see why the Rockies were so high on him when he was drafted. As long as he’s able to stay healthy, we should see Nevin begin to climb the ladder through the farm system sooner rather than later.
