The Rockies will attempt to avoid a series loss against the Atlanta Braves tonight, as the two teams will each send a lefty to the mound. Kyle Freeland gets the start for the Rockies and Sean Newcomb has the ball for the Braves.
Charlie Blackmon departed Friday’s game early due to a cramp, but he’s in the starting lineup today in his customary spots: center field and hitting leadoff. Carlos González isn’t in the starting lineup. Gerardo Parra will take his place in right field. In left, the Rockies have chosen to start Pat Valaika instead of Raimel Tapia. The probable reason for the latter decision is that the Rockies are facing a left-handed pitcher. But during his minor-league career Tapia hit lefties just fine—better than fine, in fact.
