Nick Additon is a bit of a drifter in baseball. The 29-year-old has been a journeyman through three systems and over a half dozen minor league teams since he was drafted in the 47th round in 2006. Earlier this month, the Yard Goats signed Additon to bolster their rotation and on Sunday night he had the best start since his signing.
Seven strikeouts in five innings, only allowing three runs on five hits, Additon was in control most of the night and only took the loss due to a lack of run support from the Yard Goats offense.
Additon is likely just a signing to give the Goats the depth they needed to finish the season and will undoubtedly not see the majors for the Rockies, but the same could be said for many players who eventually made an impact in the bigs.
Correlle Prime tallied the lone RBI for the Goats (the other run was scored on a Drew Weeks steal of home plate) in their 4-2 defeat. The loss dropped Hartford to 59-73 on the year and with only eight games left on the schedule a below .500 season is assured for them.
