Colorado Rockies prospect Brendan Rodgers homers for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats

Colorado Rockies minor league news and notes from August 2, 2017.

Colorado Rockies’ top prospect Brendan Rodgers continued to show why he’s one of the top prospects in all of baseball on Wednesday. The 20-year-old shortstop and No. 1 PuRP went 2-for-5 with a double and a home run in Double-A Hartford’s win over Akron. Rodgers is now hitting .263/.324/.429 across 145 plate appearances for Hartford, which is much more impressive when you consider that he’s the second youngest player with 140 or more plate appearances in the Eastern League this season. With a strong finish to this season, there’s a pretty strong likelihood that Rodgers will start the 2018 season in Triple-A Albuquerque, meaning a Major League debut during the 2018 season is also not out of the question.

Elsewhere on the farm, Stephen Cardullo had three hits and a homer for Hartford, No. 22 PuRP Garrett Hampson homered as part of a three-hit game for High-A Lancaster, and No. 21 PuRP Daniel Montano had a pair of hits for the DSL Rockies.
