As the 2017 season minor league season comes to a close the Rockies most recent draft continues to flex it muscle. Last night, the Grand Junction Rockies scored 18 runs against the Orem Owlz with an impressive display of power. 2017 draftees Casey Golden and Chad Spanberger both hit their league-leading 16th home runs last night as part of a four home run performance by the Rockies rookie level team.
While Spanberger’s draft pedigree is much higher, Casey Golden has matched his prolific power production despite missing over a week of games after tumbling over the side outfield wall in Billings while attempting to make a spectacular catch on July 13.
Both players have also posted some elevated strike out rates. Hopefully, both players will make some significant strides in their plate discipline as well and improve those rates as part of their development. However, if they can continue to hit home runs at their current pace, those rates will be tolerable.
