Rockies hope starters can lead way to playoffs | Rockies.com

Rockies are looking toward October with a refurbished pitching rotation. So who’s in? | The Denver Post

The Rockies original plan for their rotation coming into the 2017 season was to only have one rookie in the rotation. Jon Gray, Tyler Anderson, Chad Bettis and Tyler Chatwood were supposed to be the anchors and one of the Rockies four talented rookie pitchers would fill out the rotation. Things didn't go to plan, however, and the Rockies broke camp with two rookies in the rotation. That quickly grew to three and eventually all four rookies were in the rotation at the same time.

The rookies did their job and helped carry the Rockies into contention. Now all the veterans are back and maybe just in time. German Marquez is the only rookie remaining in the rotation and the rest have slotted into the bullpen for now. When the 25 roster restrictions return with the playoffs and no longer a need for a five-man rotation it will be interesting to see who stay in the rotation and which pitcher may not even make the playoff roster.
