Last night, in his final start of the year, 27-year-old Ryan Carpenter held the Reno Aces to only one run over seven innings to put the cap on a sneakily great season for the Isotopes.
Carpenter scattered three hits over the start, striking out seven and only walking two. Carpenter lowered his ERA to 4.15 on the season, outstanding considering his home park and the hitter friendly PCL in general. Carpenter’s night was dominant and announced his intentions to be part of the Rockies 40-man future come 2018.
The left hander was recently named to the 2017 All-PCL team and with 161 strikeouts in 158 innings, Carpenter showed some legitimate swing and miss stuff throughout his terrific season. It may have flown under the radar, but Carpenter’s season may have easily been the best of any Rockies pitcher in the minor league system.
The Isotopes bolstered Carpenter’s final start with a strong offensive showing to snag a 5-1 victory. Other news and notes from the affiliates are below:
