Tuesday Pebble Report: Rockies prospect Sam Hilliard hits two home runs on the season’s final day

Lancaster ends the regular season in style, locking up the best record in the Cal League

Last night, on the final day of the regular season, Sam Hilliard had one of his finest games of the year. The 26th ranked PuRP hit two home runs to become join the prestigious 20 home run, 30 stolen bases club and upped his batting average to exactly .300 to finish the year.

Hilliard’s year has been overshadowed by a few other JetHawks this season, but it may be the 23-year-old that proves to be the best hitter out of a very good group of players.

The former 15th round pick finished with a strong slash line of .300/.360/..487 combined with 21 home runs and 37 steals. Hilliard may have been helped by the hitter friendly Lancaster ballpark but his patience at the plate and sneaky home run pop have to keep him on the radar as a potential fringe prospect in the Rockies system who could make an impact.

The JetHawks 11-4 win gave them a 79-61 record, good for the best record in the California League. The Hawks will open the playoffs on Wednesday at home in Lancaster.
