Tony Wolters got an RBI single in the thirteenth inning to put the Rockies on top 2-1, leading to their victory over the Cubs. It was a true battle of the pitchers, as the Rockies held on to a narrow lead for most of the game thanks to domination by Kyle Freeland. John Lester held the Rockies to just one run into the thirteenth, making it the longest elimination game in MLB history. Adam Ottavino was able to fend off trouble with the bases loaded in the seventh. The Rockies pulled it off, though, and will head into the NLDS against the Brewers Thursday night.

In Tuesday night’s Wild Card game, John Lester started against Kyle Freeland. Lester has a hefty amount of playoff experience, with three World Series wins. Freeland is the young upstart, who played one heck of a season. The Rockies were able to play it just right, with enough offense to pull it out and win after thirteen innings.
