Starting the season 0-6 was never the plan for the Hartford Yard Goats, but yesterday that is where they sat. Some tough losses and some slumping bats caused a stumble far longer than anyone would’ve predicted for this talented roster.
This brings us to last night, top 10 PuRP Ryan Castellani threw 6 innings of one run baseball only allowing four base runners and striking out five Flying Squirrels. Castellani’s performance was enough for the Goats as a second inning home run by Sam Hilliard and an RBI triple by Yonathan Daza staked all the needed runs in a 3-1 win, the Goats first.
Castellani lowered his ERA to 2.53 with the performance, a much more efficient outing than his last. Castellani needed just 82 pitches to get through the six frames and retired the final seven Flying Squirrels he faced.
The Yard Goats improved to 1-6 on the season and a win streak is surely on the horizon.
