After a strong summer in 2015 that saw hype build beyond just a “throw in prospect” level, Jesus Tinoco struggled for two years to regain his footing as a pitcher in the Rockies organization.
This year, in Double-A Hartford, the 22-year-old Venezuelan has started to regain the prospect shine that people hoped to see.
Last night, Tinoco threw six shutout innings as Hartford poked it’s head back over .500 and improved to 10-3 since it’s disastrous 0-6 start. Tinoco struck out four and only allowed four base runners over the course of the game. He improved his K/BB rate to 21:9 and lowered his season ERA to 3.48.
In an environment like Dunkin’ Donuts Park, ERA’s can balloon quickly. The park has quickly grown a reputation for being a classic minor league bandbox making Tinoco’s dominance on Wednesday night all the more impressive.
For now, from an early line perspective, it looks like Jesus Tinoco is starting to grow into what made him a target for the Rockies in 2015 and he’s still only 22 years old.
