Raimel Tapia continues to prove he’s ready to help the Rockies win games

New, comments

Prospect news and game results from the Rockies minor league affiliates from Tuesday, May 1, 2018

Raimel Tapia had another big day at the plate for the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes, going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Tapia is now slashing .307/.368/.544 in 24 games and 103 at-bats for the ‘Topes, and appears ready and capable to follow in the footsteps of David Dahl and be called up to the Rockies to make a positive impact on an anemic major league offense. Now, it’s just up to Jeff Bridich and Bud Black to give him the opportunity.

Jeff Hoffman also had a good day for Albuquerque by pitching 5.2 strong innings, giving up one run, walking three, and striking out six. Like Tapia, Jeff may be close to re-joining the Rockies — either in the rotation or bullpen — and is reminding us why he was a highly rated prospect in the past and the primary return in the Troy Tulowitzki trade. If Tyler Anderson misses any more time or Germán Márquez continues to struggle, look for Jeff Hoffman to be a primary candidate to assume one of their roles on the 25-man roster.

In other noteworthy performances, Ryan Vilade went 2-for-3 with a double and stolen base for Asheville, Wes Rogers had two hits (including a home run) for Hartford, and Colton Welker extended his hit streak to nine games for Lancaster.
