Colorado Rockies place Adam Ottavino on 10-day DL, recall Scott Oberg

The team’s top reliever to date in 2018 will miss time with a strained oblique.

The Colorado Rockies placed right-handed pitcher Adam Ottavino on the 10-day disabled list with a strained oblique and recalled reliever Scott Oberg from Triple-A Albuquerque, the team announced Monday.

Ottavino has been the Rockies’ best bullpen arm in 2018, with a 0.95 ERA and 0.64 WHIP in 28 13 innings. He has also struck out 45, walking just 10. His 45.5 strikeout percentage is tied with Seattle’s Edwin Diaz for third in baseball among pitchers that have thrown at least 20 innings this season.

His last appearances was Sunday, in which he threw just four pitches, inducing an inning-ending double play ball with the bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning.

Replacing Ottavino on the roster is hard-throwing Scott Oberg, who posted a 1.88 ERA and 0.98 WHIP in 12 games and 14 13 innings pitched since his demotion to Triple-A Albuquerque. He posted a 6.55 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 11 innings with the Rockies earlier this season.
