It was a busy day throughout the Colorado Rockies’ farm system on Thursday. Their affiliates combined to play a whopping nine games, but won only two. Among the action, the biggest highlight came from Roberto Ramos, who made an instant impact in his debut for the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats by hitting two home runs.
After a huge first half to the season that saw Ramos hit .304/.411/.640 in 255 plate appearances in High-A Lancaster, the 23-year-old won the California League home run derby before being promoted to Double-A Hartford. His two solo home runs on Thursday accounted for both of the Yard Goats’ runs in what was ultimately a loss for the club, but it’s a promising sign to see Ramos acclimating himself to more advanced pitching so quickly. Throughout his minor league career, Ramos has done nothing but hit, as he’s amassed a .297/.367/.516 slash line across five different levels. If he continues to hit at the torrid pace he has so far in 2018, expect him to continue to climb the minor league ladder rather quickly.
