The Colorado Rockies have placed reliever Bryan Shaw on the 10-day disabled list with a right calf strain and recalled Yency Almonte, the team announced today.
Shaw gave up a seventh-inning grand slam to J.T. Realmuto in the Rockies 6-2 loss to the Miami Marlins on Saturday, raising his season ERA to 7.57 and his June ERA to 12.96 in 8 1⁄3 innings. He has already tied a career high with eight home runs allowed this season. Perhaps this DL stint can get Shaw back on track to being the reliever the Rockies signed to a three-year, $27 million deal this offseason.
In Shaw’s place will be 24-year-old righty Yency Almonte, who actually never left as he was in the Rockies clubhouse yesterday despite not being on the roster for the game. Almonte made his major league debut with the Rockies earlier this week, making a pair of appearances, allowing a hit and a walk in two scoreless innings.
