Rockies activate Scott Oberg and Mike Dunn, option Jeff Hoffman and Brooks Pounders

Oberg and Dunn can help an unsteady bullpen

The Rockies have activated veteran relief pitchers Scott Oberg and Mike Dunn off the disabled list, the team announced. In a corresponding move, they optioned young relievers Jeff Hoffman and Brooks Pounders to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Dunn was placed on the DL on June 8 with a rhomboid (shoulder) strain and Oberg was placed on the DL two days later, on June 10, with a back strain. In rehab assignments over the weekend, both pitched very well. Dunn pitched the eighth inning for the Isotopes on Saturday, pitching a clean inning. Oberg pitched the ninth, giving up two hits and a strikeout to earn the save.

In five games as a reliever in 2018, Hoffman has given up six runs (all earned) on seven hits, as well as six walks and three strikeouts with an ERA of 10.13. Pounders has an ERA of 7.63 after 15 games, giving up 13 runs (all earned) on 25 hits with three home runs, two walks, and 17 strikeouts.

The presence of Dunn and Oberg should help bolster the unsteady bullpen.
