Rockies prospect Grant Lavigne continues to dominate the Pioneer League

Prospect news and game results from the Rockies minor league affiliates from Sunday, July 1

Grant Lavigne is looking like the real deal. He his his third home run of the season last night in a crazy 18-6 win for the Gran Junction Rockies and reached base a total of five times. Lavigne drove in five runs and also got his first professional stolen base.

When the Colorado Rockies selected Lavigne with their Competitive Balance Round A pick, the idea of selecting a high school first baseman that high seemed like a stretch. With little positional versatility, there was going to be a lot of pressure put on him to produce with his bat to live up to his draft status. So far, Lavinge has done what was needed as he has dominated Pioneer League pitching with Grand Junction.

In eight games, Lavigne has posted a ridiculous .424/.500/.818/1.318 slash line and has homered in three consecutive games. He’s walked just as many times (four) as he’s struck out so far as well. Chances are, Lavigne won’t be able to maintain this amazing pace. However, as a high school draftee from a northern state, his ability to make the leap to professional ball without even the slightest hiccup bodes extremely well.
