Kyle Freeland struggled through five innings of work, but kept his team in the game, allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Carlos Gonzalez chipped in offensively with an RBI double and Ian Desmond had an RBI single as well as a triple, scoring the first Rockies run of the game.
The win moves the Rockies to just a game back of the Dodgers in the NL West and 1 1⁄2 back of Atlanta for a Wild Card berth.
Welcome to the big leagues, rookie
Rockies second baseman Garrett Hampson announced his presence with authority in his first big league game, with a slick play on his first defensive chance and going 1-for-3 with a walk and this RBI double in the fifth inning, cutting the Rockies deficit to 3-2.

A pinch hit home run, again
For the second straight game, the Rockies took a late lead on a pinch hit home run. Last night, it was a grand slam from Raimel Tapia, tonight it was a solo shot from Tom Murphy to break a 5-5 tie in the eighth inning. It was Murphy’s first big league home run since Sept. 21, 2016.
The Rockies will look to sweep the series with Arizona and win their eighth straight game tomorrow, with Antonio Senzatela taking the mound against Zack Greinke. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. Mountain
