The Colorado Rockies draft class of 2017 had a good night in Greensboro on Friday, as second rounder Ryan Vilade (no. 10 PuRP) had two extra base hits and third rounder Will Gaddis (no. 24 PuRP) threw seven strong innings to give the Asheville Tourists the victory. Casey Golden (20th round) added a tie-breaking three-run home run in the sixth (in his hometown, no less) to give the Tourists the lead they would not relinquish.
Vilade doubled in the sixth inning and came around to score on Golden’s 26th home run of the season and later tripled home Thomas Jones to make it 7-2. He finished the night 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. He’s now hitting .271/.348/.371 over 104 games in what has been a good-yet-disappointing second professional season after hitting .308/.438/.496 in 33 games at Grand Junction in 2017.
Will Gaddis, meanwhile, had his best start in over a month, going seven innings while allowing just two runs on seven hits and a walk. He had four strikeouts in the 88-pitch outing and how holds a 4.60 ERA and 1.34 WHIP with a 70:26 K/BB over 101 2⁄3 innings for the Tourists.
