The Rockies won a game in Atlanta last night. This is good news. It’s something they have only done 32 times in 97 tries (a .330 win percentage, in case you were wondering). They’ll try to take down the NL East leading Braves again tonight by sending Kyle Freeland to the mound to take on Braves hotshot rookie lefty Sean Newcomb.
Fun fact: both pitchers have come within two outs of a no hitter. Newcomb came one out away from no-hitting the Dodgers on June 29 this year, while Freeland was two outs away on July 7 of last year against the White Sox.
Despite some late game heroics, Ryan McMahon returns to the bench in favor of Ian Desmond at first base as Bud Black tries to stack the lineup with right-handed batters against the young lefty.
Oh, and apparently tonight is Sandlot Night for @Rockies on Twitter. So have some fun with that.
