Colorado Rockies game no. 128 thread: Antonio Senzatela vs. Miles Mikolas

Lineups, discussion, and updates from Friday’s game between the Rockies and Cardinals

All the games are important at this stage of the season for the Colorado Rockies (70-57). But the weekend series that kicks off tonight against the St. Louis Cardinals (71-57) may be the most important. The two teams are locked in a tight NL Wild Card race, with the Cardinals currently holding a 12 game lead for the first Wild Card spot over the Rockies, who are in a virtual tie for the second spot.

Both teams are also extremely hot. Since July 24, the Cardinals are 20-7, including a 3-1 series victory over the Rockies in St Louis July 30-August 2. In that same time frame, the Rockies are 17-10. Those are the two best records in the National League in that time. What I’m trying to say is these teams are both hot and only one team can win each game, so we should be in for some exciting baseball.

Miles Mikolas (who is called “The Lizard King for some reason) will take the mound for the Cards. Antonio Senzatela will get his second start since being summoned back to the rotation on August 18, when he went five innings allowing just two runs in a game the Rockies eventually won in Atlanta (thanks to some late-game magic).

DJ LeMahieu has been granted the night off and Ryan McMahon will start at second in his stead.
