Here we go, everybody. Meaningful games in September (well, close enough). I hope you’re ready. The Rockies begin a four-game set against the San Diego Padres that kicks off 24 straight games within the division.
Germán Márquez will take the mound for the Rockies, coming off seven shutout innings with nine strikeouts against the Cardinals last Saturday. He is on a streak of six straight starts of pitching at least six innings and allowing three runs or fewer, including three straight of seven innings with two runs or fewer. This will be his third start against the Padres this year, the first coming on April 11 in Denver (3 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 4 K), and the second at Petco Park May 15 (5 IP, 6 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 5 K).
Rookie lefthander Eric Lauer starts for the Padres. He made his only start against the Rockies in his MLB-debut on April 24 where he went three innings allowing seven runs (six earned). He owns a 5.30 ERA and 1.71 WHIP in 86 2⁄3 innings over 18 starts.
