Are you not entertained, Rockies fans? Today the Rockies go for the series sweep over the Phillies, which would extend their division lead over the idle Dodgers to a full game with three to play in the season. A win would also give them a commanding two game lead over the Cardinals for the final wild card spot.
First things first, they need to beat the Phillies this afternoon. Antonio Senzatela takes the mound for the Rockies. Since rejoining the rotation in July, Antonio has a 4.08 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP over 68 1⁄3 innings and 12 starts. He’s been at his best over his last two starts, going five innings allowing just one run in San Francisco on September 16 and then going seven innings with, again, just one run allowed in Arizona on September 22. He’ll look to keep that going, but hopefully he’ll get help from a Rockies offense that has averaged nearly 12 runs per game over their last four home games.
Senzatela will be opposed by Jake Arrieta, who is pretty far from his peak self of 2015, when he went 22-6 and had a 1.77 ERA en route to the Cy Young Award. This year, his first with the Phillies, he has a much more pedestrian 3.94 ERA (106 ERA+) and 1.29 WHIP in 30 starts spanning 166 2⁄3 innings. Key stat for a game in Coors against a hot offense: he’s allowed 1.0 HR/9, the second highest rate of his career since he became a full time starter in 2014.
