Wednesday afternoon’s series finale between the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves has been officially postponed ahead of a blizzard set to hit the Denver area Wednesday evening. The team has already announced the game will be made up Monday, August 26 at 1:10 pm MT.

The Denver forecast calls for rain starting right around first pitch. Even if the teams were able to play though it, snow and high wind conditions are set to arrive in the area around rush hour, right when both teams would be trying to catch flights out of town. Rather than risk stranding the teams overnight, the Rockies and Major League Baseball did the smart thing by calling the game extra early.

Hopefully arriving extra early in San Francisco today will help cure the Rockies of whatever ails them. Colorado is set to being a four-game set against the 4-8 Giants Thursday at 7:45 pm MT. Jeff Hoffman is still listed as the projected starter, taking the rotation spot of the injured Tyler Anderson.
Update, 10:15am MT: Thomas Harding is now reporting Anderson’s spot will be skipped entirely and Jon Gray will start the series opener in San Francisco. This likely means Hoffman won’t be called up until Monday in San Diego and will get one more start in ABQ between now and then.
Since the Rockies got their “rainout,” let’s hope their fortunes turn in a similar way that it did for Crash Davis’s Durham Bulls. In absence of a game to discuss, the topic for the “game thread” is baseball movies.
