The Rockies offense has gone strangely dormant over the last three games, scoring just four runs total. They have their work cut out for them if they want to change that tonight in Tampa Bay.
The Rockies will face reigning AL Cy Young award winner Blake Snell of the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rockies will counter with their own Cy Young contender, Kyle Freeland. One might suspect that such a high caliber pitching match-up would lead to a premium on runs, but we all know the saying.
Freeland allowed a run on two hits and a walk in seven innings of work on Thursday against the Marlins; the Rockies went on to win 6-3. Snell had a much tougher time, allowing three home runs to the Astros over six innings in a 5-1 Rays loss.
Meanwhile, the offense has mustered just two runs in the past 24 frames in their now three game losing streak. David Dahl has a 1.143 OPS through the season’s first five games and Nolan Arenado is hitting .318 in 22 at bats, but otherwise there hasn’t been much in the way of run production since Daniel Murphy (who was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday) left the lineup.
But all losing streaks must end and winning streaks have to start somewhere so hey, why not today?
