Colorado Rockies game no. 23 thread: Tyler Anderson vs. Jeremy Hellickson

New, comments

Start time, lineups, and discussion for the opening game of a three game set between the Rockies and Nationals.

Fresh off their first home series win of the season, the Rockies welcome the Washington Nationals to Coors Field for a three game set beginning Monday night.

The Nats are 10-10 to start the season and are coming off a series loss in Miami. They narrowly avoided the sweep thanks to Stephen Strasburg throwing eight shutout innings with 11 strikeouts (meaning the Rockies won’t have to face him this week). In fact, the Rockies will also miss perennial Cy Young candidate Max Scherzer in this series, who got rocked for six earned runs in 5 13 innings on Saturday. It’s also possible that the Nat’s best hitter, Anthony Rendon (1.223 OPS in 19 games), will be playing a bit limited this week after getting hit by a pitch on the elbow on Saturday night. He was held out of the lineup on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Rockies have placed Kyle Freeland on the 10-day IL due to his blister issue. The move is retroactive to April 19, so it’s likely Kyle will miss just one turn in the rotation. Tyler Anderson takes Kyle’s place on the active roster and will take the mound in his first start after being placed on the IL for left knee inflammation. We may see a bit of a piggyback situation with Chad Bettis picking up some bulk innings if Anderson’s performance or health falters.
