Colorado Rockies game no. 29 thread: Kyle Freeland at Zach Davies

New, comments

Start time, lineups, and discussion for the opening game of a four game set between the Rockies and Brewers.

It’s time for an NLDS rematch as the Colorado Rockies (13-15) head to Milwaukee to take on the Brewers (15-14) for a four game set beginning Monday night.

The last time the Rockies paid a visit to Wisconsin things didn’t go so well due in large part to an offense that was struggling to put up runs. The figures to be less of a problem this time around, as they have scored seven or more runs in five of their last six games.

The Brewers defense of their NL Central crown isn’t going exactly as they had planned. Their rotation has a combined 5.55 ERA over 141 innings, fourth worst in baseball. The lone bright spot so far, Zach Davies (1.65 ERA with 19 strikeouts and 10 walks in 27 13 innings) takes the mound tonight for the Brew Crew.

Their offense has been carried by last year’s MVP and two free agent signees: Christian Yelich (212 wRC+), Yasmani Grandal (135 wRC+), and Mike Moustakas (145 wRC+). The rest of the lineup has been somewhere between average (Lorenzo Cain, 98 wRC+) to atrocious (Jesus Aguilar, 2 wRC+). Yelich, however, is not in the starting lineup tonight due to a day-to-day back injury.

But tonight the Rockies get to use someone they never did in the NLDS; Kyle Freeland is scheduled to make his return from the IL after missing his last start due to a blister issue. To make room for him on the active roster, the Rockies optioned DJ Johnson to Triple-ABQ.
