The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have placed infielder Ryan McMahon on the 10-day injured list with a left elbow sprain. He suffered the injury in the ninth inning of yesterday’s game after a throwing error by Nolan Arenado caused a collision with A.J. Pollock. Thus far, McMahon has gone 5-for-25 with three runs scored, two doubles, one RBI and four walks over his first seven games.
In his place, the Rockies have recalled infielder Josh Fuentes from Triple-A Albuquerque to make his major league debut. Yes, he is the cousin of Nolan Arenado — how cool will it be to see Nolan throwing to Josh across the diamond? Anyway, Fuentes, 26, is the reigning PCL MVP and so far has gone 3-for-7 with two doubles and one home run in just two games with the Isotopes so far. He will wear #8.
