The Rockies have placed left-handed starter Tyler Anderson on the 10-day injured list with left knee inflammation, the team announced. They recalled righty Yency Almonte to take his place on the 25-man roster.
Almonte may only be with the Rockies for a few days. Almonte pitched exclusively in relief during Spring Training, and he may not be stretched out enough to start. Anderson’s next turn in the rotation would be Wednesday, and by that time either Antonio Senzatela or Jeff Hoffman may be called on to take Anderson’s start.
Anderson has had a rough start to the 2019 season. He’s given up 18 hits and 11 runs in 11 innings of work.
If Almonte is indeed being called up to serve as an extra bullpen arm for the next few games, it will be interesting to see if he can continue his performance from last season, when posted a 1.84 ERA over 14 2⁄3 innings of work.
