It’s now official. The Rockies have selected the contract of their top prospect, Brendan Rodgers. That’s according to the team.
Rodgers in Philadelphia with the team right now, and if there’s any justice in the universe he will be in tonight’s starting lineup. Here is some visual evidence of Rodgers’s presence in Philly, courtesy of Thomas Harding:

Rodgers will wear number 7, also according to Harding.
The Rockies made a few other moves as well. They reinstated left-handed reliever Jake McGee from the injured list. To make room for Rodgers and McGee, they optioned infielder Pat Valaika and relief pitcher DJ Johnson to Triple-A Albuquerque.
The Rockies did not have to remove anyone from the 40-man roster to add Rodgers, as he’s taking the spot vacated by Drew Butera.
The good news here is that Rodgers got the call without anyone having to go on the IL. The bad news is that the crowded infield means it’s now up to the Rockies to disprove the widespread and evidence based feeling that their standard practice is to bring up top prospects so they can watch major league baseball from the dugout.
We’ll find out soon enough.
