With the exception of German Marquez, the Rockies’ rotation has been struggling. Kyle Freeland is missing that special factor he had last season when he was in contention for the Cy Young Award. Jon Gray, while improving from last year, hasn’t been very consistent, and neither has Antonio Senzatela. Tyler Anderson is likely going to have knee surgery, taking him out for this season. While we can’t say it’s entirely the fault of pitching, the rotation has certainly contributed to the lackluster start the Rockies have had. Rockies’ pitchers need to work on starting the games strong; they can’t be giving up several runs early on. Something’s got to give for the rotation if the Rockies are going to stand a chance.
Colorado Rockies: Brendan Rodgers shows his potential at the plate | Rox Pile
Brendan Rodgers has had a slow start in his major league debut. He’s been prone to striking out, and the hits he has gotten haven’t looked great. However, in Wednesday night’s game, things finally seemed to click for him. He went three for five, getting an RBI and a run. Now he’s starting to look like the top prospect he is.
Blackmon exits with right calf injury | Rockies.com
Charlie Blackmon left Thursday’s game against the Pirates with a calf injury. This isn’t great news for the Rockies, as Blackmon has been one of their most consistent hitters of late. They’ll take a look at him again Friday, but they’d rather play it safe than sorry. It’s not a sure thing who would fill in the outfield spot should Blackmon not play. Regardless, hopes are that it’s just a minor injury.
