It was a pretty different week for a couple of Ryans this past week. Number 9 PuRP Ryan Vilade had 10 hits in 22 at bats for the Lancaster JetHawks, and he added a couple of walks to his ledger as well. The 2017 second round draft pick is now hitting .272/.377/.390 with two home runs. Vilade is a part of the Rockies pretty deep reserve of prospects in the infield, and he looks like he’ll be making the level-by-level trek through the minors. Right now though, he looks more like a Garrett Hampson than a Ryan McMahon.
PuRP number 10 Ryan Castellani didn’t have quite so good of a week. He had a disastrous three inning start for the Albuquerque Isotopes, giving up 8 runs in three innings. Castellani’s ERA for the season now sits at 8.31. While it’s true that offensive figures in the PCL have been ludicrous, Castellani’s season to date does not inspire a lot of confidence that he could contribute if the Rockies needed to pull from their starting rotation depth.
Triple-A: Albuquerque Isotopes (31-39)
Speaking of ludicrous PCL numbers, number 14 PuRP Yonathan Daza had another great week and is now hitting .387/.426/.596. Daza will probably make a few more appearances with the Rockies as the season progresses. He probably will not hit that well.
Double-A: Hartford Yard Goats (37-29)
He only pitched an inning, but number 17 PuRP Ben Bowden continues to dominate out of the bullpen for the Yard Goats. He struck out two batters in his clean inning, though he also walked two. For the season, Bowden has a fairly shiny 1.05 ERA in 25 2⁄3 innings pitched.
It was a rough week, however, for hitting prospects in Double-A. Colton Welker and Tyler Nevin combined to go 4-for-32 with 11 strikeouts.
Class A Advanced: Lancaster JetHawks (34-34)
To continue our saga of Ryans, Rolilson had more of a Castellani week than a Vilade week. Rolison allowed nine runs in 3 2⁄3 innings pitched in his start last week. He struck out four batters and gave up two home runs. It wasn’t a good outing, but a top pitching prospect pitching for Lancaster definitely deserves the “don’t scout the stat line” caveat. I can’t wait to see how he does in Double-A.
Single A: Asheville Tourists (29-41)
Riley Pint pitched two scoreless innings for Asheville last week, which counts as a major win. He struck out three and walked two.
Short Season-A: Boise Hawks (0-3)
Rookie: Grand Junction Rockies (0-3)
Recent draftees who have signed are starting to get assignments to Boise and Grand Junction. We should start to see international signings from a couple of years ago make their way stateside soon as well. The Rockies have yet to sign their first round draft pick, first baseman Michael Toglia.
DSL Colorado (3-9)
DSL Rockies (9-4)
Seventeen year old Warming Bernabel is getting off to a good start in his first season of DSL ball. The 2018 signee logged 7 hits in 25 at bats last week. Fellow 17-year-old Pedro Mota went 6-for-17 last week.
