The Rockies (39-34) look to get out of Arizona with a series sweep as they take on the Diamondbacks (38-37) in a matinee finale on Thursday. The game is not being broadcast on AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain, so if you’re in the blackout area, fire up GameDay and join the discussion here!
Jeff Hoffman really has deserved better than he’s gotten in 2019. Since being called to join the rotation he sports a 7.04 ERA in 30 2⁄3 innings. If you want the good news, his DRA is at a perfectly acceptable 4.71 and his DRA- (where 100 is average) sits at 98.2. In other words: there’s reason to believe Hoffman has been pitching better than his results. His last time out was Friday night against the Padres where he went five innings and gave up just one run.
Robbie Ray takes the mound for the Dbacks. He has a 3.83 ERA in 15 starts, and an astonishing 106 strikeouts in 82 1⁄3 innings, though he has a 1.32 WHIP fueled by a 4.83 BB/9. His last time out against Washington he gave up five runs in six innings and took the loss.
Trevor Story is out of the lineup and headed to a hand specialist to look at his right thumb sprain. He has been moved to the 10-day IL and Brendan Rodgers is back up with the big club.
