Rockies recall Brendan Rodgers from Albuquerque, place Trevor Story on IL

Right now it’s listed as a sprain, but Story will see a hand specialist to determine the extent of the injury

After an awkward slide into second base in last night’s game that ended in his removal, Trevor Story has officially been placed on the Injured List with a right thumb sprain, the team announced. This will be Story’s third career stint on the injured list, his third since May 2017 when he went down with a shoulder injury. In 71 games this season, he has batted .294/.360/.547 with 39 extra base hits (17 homers). He leads the Majors in runs scored (65) while also being in the top six in the National League for hits (86), doubles (20), and stolen bases (12). The Rockies are thin behind Story, so hopefully this isn’t a lingering injury.

In the meantime, the Rockies have called upon Brendan Rodgers again, who was optioned to Triple-A last Saturday after spending 21 games with the big league club. During that time, he batted .246/.300/.277 with two doubles. In Albuquerque, he has batted .350/.413/.622 with 20 extra base hits (9 homers). Since being sent down, he played in two games and went 2-for-8 with two strikeouts.
