The Rockies took a pitcher with their pick in the Competitive Balance B Round on Monday. They took Karl Kauffmann, a right hander out of the University of Michigan, with the 77th overall pick.

A 2080 Baseball scouting report says that Kaufman throws a sinker that sits in the 92-94mph range that he couples with a slider. The slider is said to be “above average,” and one scout told 2080 that it “could get major leaguers out now.” He completes the profile with a less used changeup. It sounds like he profiles as either a back-end starter or reliever.
